Model Aircraft Laboratories was established in 1945 by Edgar Seay Sr. and his wife Mildred. The retail hobby shop was actually opened in 1948. Edgar Sr. has been building models professionally for the aviation industry since 1927 - "from Jennies to Jets." His son, Edgar Seay Jr. established MAL in the mail-order business over twenty five years ago, specializing in books and materials on aviation, military history, and modeling.
What was a family business of 3 people is now down to 2, as mom died in 1994, and Sr is producing a line of balsa rubber powered kits and therefore does not spend as much time in the store.So the store is run by Jr with some part time help.
